Starlink for Business: Working Remotely from the Road (2026)

I Put Starlink to the Ultimate Test: Can You Really Run a Successful Business From the Open Road?

In 2022, I embarked on a 30-day, 5,000-mile cross-country solo bike trip, determined to test the limits of working remotely while on the move. I drove my motorcycle up 13,000 feet to the top of Cinnamon Pass in Colorado, equipped with a Starlink Mini satellite dish and a Pixel 4 XL smartphone. Despite the challenging terrain and limited connectivity, I persevered, and this experience inspired my PCMag story, "Working From Roam: How I Ran My Business While Riding 5,000 Miles Across America."

Fast forward to November 2025, and I'm on a week-long journey within my home state of North Carolina. I'm in my 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser, Luci, with a 2,047-watt-hour EcoFlow Delta 2 Max solar generator and a Starlink Mini satellite dish. This setup allows me to stay connected to my online financial software company, BacktoTheFutureTrading, and maintain my independence from corporate America. My father's career at Pan Am, a once-dominant airline, and my daughter's struggle to find work in a uncertain market have shaped my perspective on stability and entrepreneurship.

On the road, I rely on a combination of technologies, including a HiBoost Cell Phone Signal Booster, a Google Pixel 9 Pro XL, and a Garmin inReach Mini for communication. The Starlink Mini, with its improved speeds and latency, ensures a steady connection even while driving at 60 mph. I've also invested in a full-size Starlink V3 dish for longer stays, and I use an Ecoflow 220-watt folding solar panel to power my equipment.

My remote work setup includes a Gazelle T3 tent, which provides ample space for my office, and a Meta Quest 3 VR headset for seamless pass-through mode. I can access my home workstation's resources remotely, thanks to the Remote PC software. This setup allows me to work efficiently and enjoy the freedom of being my own boss.

As I reflect on my journey, I'm inspired by the idea of traveling to remote places while bringing modern technology along for the ride. My father's untimely death from a heart attack, likely due to stress, serves as a stark reminder of the importance of work-life balance and the benefits of remote work. I'm grateful for the technology that enables me to create a stable and fulfilling life, free from the constraints of a traditional office.

This article is a testament to the power of technology in shaping our lives and careers. It's a call to embrace the possibilities of remote work and to seek out the freedom and flexibility it offers. As I continue my journey, I'm eager to explore new destinations and continue building a business that travels with me, not the other way around.
