SIEMs are crucial tools for cyber-defenders, collecting log files and setting rules to detect potential security incidents. However, the complexity arises when organizations employ multiple SIEMs, creating a challenging environment for security operations centers (SOCs).
This is where ARuleCon steps in. Developed by academics from the National University of Singapore and Fudan University, this technique translates rules from diverse SIEMs, making them more accessible and manageable across multiple systems.

"Rule conversion can be a tedious and time-consuming process for security experts," Xu explains. This is where ARuleCon shines, offering a scalable and reliable framework that retains the value of existing rules while reducing the workload for SOCs.
The beauty of ARuleCon lies in its use of an "agentic RAG pipeline" and Python-based consistency checks. By retrieving official vendor documentation and running rules in controlled environments, ARuleCon ensures accuracy and vendor-specific correctness.
While the tool is not perfect, it achieves an impressive feat by translating proprietary rule formats from Splunk, Microsoft Sentinel, IBM QRadar, Google Chronicle, and RSA NetWitness to multiple rival platforms. This capability is a significant step forward in the world of cybersecurity.
"The potential impact of ARuleCon is immense," Xu adds. "By enabling organizations to consolidate or migrate their SIEM systems, we can enhance their ability to detect genuine security threats and reduce the noise caused by multiple alerts."
